About Us

Integrated Rural Artisans Development Organization (IRADO) is a committed civil society organization working tirelessly to empower traditional artisans and marginalized social groups across the Northeastern region of India. Established under the Societies Registration Act of 1860, IRADO was born out of the longstanding aspirations of the weavers’ community—to shift the development narrative from one of needs to one of rights.Entrenched in Assam's rich cultural heritage, IRADO facilitates building perspectives, driving advocacy, and supporting the professional development of artisans. Our mission is to bridge the gap between government schemes and the backward communities they are meant to serve, ensuring that these initiatives translate into meaningful improvements in their lives.
What began as a grassroots initiative—door-to-door marketing of handicraft products in metropolitan cities—has blossomed into a transformative journey for both the organization and the communities we serve. This early approach not only opened up new markets but also instilled confidence and pride among artisans, particularly women, who began to see their skills as viable livelihoods and tools for change.
Today, IRADO aspires to become a vibrant platform to revitalize and mainstream the traditional handicrafts of Assam and Northeast India. Through our initiatives, we aim to empower women by helping them gain control over their lives, resources, and future. We believe that when women are supported to grow personally and professionally, they can drive positive change that ripples through families and communities.
Our efforts span a variety of activities, from skill development and product design innovations to market linkage facilitation and awareness building. Each endeavour is aimed at improving the quality of life for rural artisans and ensuring the sustainability of their crafts in a fast-changing world.
IRADO places particular emphasis on promoting the cottage industry, especially in the field of handicrafts. In addition to livelihood development, IRADO has also made sincere contributions to the health sector through its initiative Astha, which has been actively supported by the National AIDS Control Organizationsince 2012. This long-standing commitment reflects IRADO’s dedication to holistic rural development.
The journey has been filled with learnings, challenges, and triumphs. But what continues to inspire us is the smile on the faces of those we have supported—women who now earn with dignity, families with renewed hope, and villages that are slowly transforming into hubs of creativity and resilience.
At IRADO, we are more determined than ever to scale new heights, both in terms of outreach and impact. With the continued support of partners, well- wishers, and the communities we serve, we remain steadfast in our vision of an inclusive and empowered artisan economy.
